XBS HealthCare

The XBS Healthcare app was conceptualized to bridge the gap between service users (patients) and care providers (nurses, care admins, and other administrative roles). As the UI/UX Designer, I led the design of this app from the ground up, focusing on creating a seamless, efficient, and intuitive experience for a diverse set of users. The app’s innovative rostering system and role-specific dashboards allow users to manage care services effortlessly, fostering better coordination and user satisfaction.

Challenge

The healthcare industry often struggles with fragmented communication and inefficiencies in care management. XBS aimed to develop a comprehensive solution to:

  • Simplify coordination between patients and care providers.

  • Provide an intuitive rostering system for assigning care tasks.

  • Create tailored user experiences for diverse roles, such as patients, care workers, clinical leads, and admins.

Goals

Design a user-friendly app that caters to multiple user roles.

  1. Develop a rostering feature enabling care admins to assign patients to care providers using drag-and-drop functionality.

  2. Streamline workflows for tasks such as scheduling, care coordination, and communication.

  3. Ensure accessibility and ease of use for all users, regardless of their technical expertise.

Process

1. Research & Analysis

To create a solid foundation for the app, I conducted:

  • Stakeholder Interviews: Gathered insights from care admins, service managers, nurses, and patients to understand their pain points and expectations.

  • User Personas: Developed personas for key user roles (e.g., patient, caretaker, admin) to guide design decisions.

  • Industry Research: Studied healthcare management practices to identify gaps and potential solutions.

Key Findings:

  • Patients and caretakers needed easy-to-use dashboards with essential information at their fingertips.

  • Admins required a streamlined rostering system to assign tasks quickly.

  • Users valued real-time updates, intuitive workflows, and role-specific functionalities.

2. Information Architecture

Based on the research findings:

  • Designed a modular app structure with distinct workflows for each user role.

  • Created an intuitive navigation hierarchy prioritizing key features such as rostering, dashboards, and communication tools.

3. Wireframing & Prototyping

  • Developed low-fidelity wireframes for initial user flows and layouts, focusing on clarity and ease of navigation.

  • Created high-fidelity prototypes showcasing interactive features like the drag-and-drop rostering system, role-specific dashboards, and communication tools.

  • Iterated designs based on stakeholder and user feedback.

4. Core Features Designed

Rostering System

  • Drag-and-drop interface for assigning patients to care providers (or vice versa).

  • Real-time updates for users, ensuring accurate scheduling and task assignments.

  • Role-specific access for care admins, service managers, and clinical leads.

Role-Specific Dashboards

  • Patient Dashboard: View assigned caretakers, appointment schedules, and medical records.

  • Caretaker Dashboard: Manage patient schedules, log daily activities, and communicate with other staff.

  • Admin and Manager Dashboards: Oversee operations, manage staff, and track care quality.

Communication Tools

  • Direct messaging between patients, caretakers, and admins for better coordination.

  • Notifications for schedule updates, task completions, and important alerts.

5. Usability Testing

  • Conducted usability testing with a diverse group of users, including patients, care workers, and admins.

  • Collected feedback to refine navigation, interaction design, and onboarding flows.

  • Ensured accessibility compliance to cater to all user demographics.

6. Visual Design & Style Guide

  • Designed a modern, accessible UI with consistent visual elements, including color palettes, typography, and iconography.

  • Developed a style guide to ensure design consistency across all screens and future updates.
